Introduction of Naver AI Ethics Consultation Process at Event Co-hosted by SAPI, URG, and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to Geneva
On December 5, Naver participated in the event “Human Rights-Based Approach to New Technologies: From Concept to Concrete Application” held at the UN Office in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was co-hosted by the Seoul National University AI Policy Initiative (SAPI) and Universal Rights Group (URG) alongside the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to Geneva. Naver presented its efforts to build a safe AI ecosystem.
At the event, Naver shared examples of applying abstract principles for safe AI into industry practice. Park Woo-chul, a lawyer for Naver’s Policy and RM Agenda, presented Naver’s AI Ethics Consultation Process “CHEC,” which has been in operation since 2022. CHEC is designed to apply the “Naver AI Ethics Code” to the actual service launch process. It features an interactive process that incorporates social perspectives from the planning and development stages, rather than being a one-sided check.
Park Woo-chul stated, “Without understanding the field situation, AI ethics principles can become clichéd. Naver has made efforts to make AI ethics principles applicable in the field by collaborating with academic experts like SAPI, and attempted to understand the on-site service planning and development process to conduct practical collaboration through the CHEC process.”
Additionally, Naver introduced new policies released last year and this year to concretize its AI ethics code, including ▲ the “CLOVA X Guidelines for Humans” and ▲ the Naver ASF (AI Safety Framework). Ha Jeong-woo, Director of Naver Future AI Center, said, “We will continue to lead in creating a safe and sustainable global AI ecosystem while securing excellent AI technology.”
