Spam has become increasingly annoying, occurring every other day… why?

16 Spam Messages per Month on Average per Person
Increase in Investment Inducement Spam Before Capital Markets Act Amendment

,

,
, ‘In the first half of this year, the average number of illegal spam messages received per person was tallied at 16 per month. This equates to receiving spam nearly every other day. Spam messages increased sharply in June, attributed to a surge in investment inducement spam, such as stock tip rooms, sent out in large quantities before the Capital Markets Act was amended.’,
,
, ‘On the 5th, the Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) released the “2024 First Half Spam Distribution Report.” They surveyed 3,000 mobile phone and email users nationwide (aged 12 to 69) regarding the amount of illegal spam received per person. The result showed an average monthly receipt of 16.34 spam messages, an increase of 2.85 messages from the second half of last year, marking the highest level to date.’,
,
, ‘The average number of text message spams received per person was 11.59, up by 2.68 messages compared to the second half of last year. It was found that a significant proportion of these were finance (stock, investment, etc.) and gambling-related spam. Notably, illegal spams aimed at inducing stock investments increased by 25.9% compared to the previous half.’,
,
, ‘The Korea Communications Commission attributed the spam increase to the fact that a large number of investment inducement spams, such as stock tip rooms, were sent out prior to the implementation of the amended Capital Markets Act in August. In the first half of this year, reports of investment inducement illegal spam reached 60.67 million, an 801% surge from the 6.73 million reported in the second half of last year.’,
,
, ‘Additionally, the surge is analyzed to be linked to some text resale companies that flooded the market with illegal spam, anticipating difficulties in acquiring mass texting certification. The mass texting certification system has been in effect since June.’,
,
, ‘By telecommunications carrier, LG U+ users received the most spam messages on average per month at 12.6, compared to KT (11.9) and SK Telecom (10.6). Among advertisement types, finance types aimed at inducing investments were the most received, followed by those advertising gambling, such as lotteries.’
