Taylor Swift, a pop singer from the United States, has donated $5 million (about 67.63 billion won) to support relief efforts in the hurricane-ravaged areas in the southeastern United States.
According to reports from the Associated Press and other foreign news outlets on the 10th local time, Taylor Swift’s donation was announced through a statement released by the relief organization Feeding America the day before.
Feeding America expressed its deep gratitude to Taylor Swift for donating $5 million for hurricane relief efforts in Hulin and Milton, stating that the funds will be used to rebuild the affected areas and provide essential food, clean water, and supplies to residents.
They urged others to join in donating, following Taylor Swift’s example. Hollywood couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who are close friends with Swift, also reportedly donated $1 million (about 13.52 billion won) to the same organization.
Swift, known for her global popularity, has also shown a positive influence. During a world tour in Europe earlier this summer, she made significant donations to Food Banks in succession.
Cardiff Food Bank in the UK, although not disclosing the exact amount of the donation in June, expressed gratitude to Swift. They said it was the largest individual donation since the establishment of the food bank and that it could provide 1,800 meals for three days to 1,200 people.
St. Andrew’s Community Network in Liverpool, which operates 11 food banks, mentioned that Swift’s donation was equivalent to their food expenses for a year and greatly helped their operations. The Edinburgh Food Project in Scotland also stated that they received a significant donation that would bring about great changes to the people they support.
The southeastern state of Florida, where Swift decided to donate, suffered damage from Hurricane Milton, causing roofs of MLB stadiums to blow off and power outages for 2.6 million households. CNN reported that in the evening of the 9th, St. Petersburg received over 228.6mm of rain in three hours, exceeding the area’s average rainfall for three months. CNN compared this to an amount that would occur once every 1,000 years.
