The Space Agency Embarks on ‘Community-Engaged Education’ to Nurture Future Talent.

The Space and Aviation Administration has announced plans to operate community-focused educational and cultural programs in collaboration with Sacheon City, Gyeongsangnam-do Sacheon Education Office, and the Korea Science and Space Youth Corps. The programs will be piloted in Sacheon City, where the temporary office of the Space and Aviation Administration was established on May 27 last year.

Starting with Sacheon City, where the main office is located, the program aims to gradually expand its reach to other areas beginning next year. The pilot program will involve lectures from Yoon Young-bin, the head of the Space and Aviation Administration, Deputy Director Noh Kyung-won, and other experts in the field. These sessions will provide students with firsthand experience and career exploration opportunities in the aerospace sector.

The first program, titled “Visiting Education,” will take place on the 16th at Dongseong Elementary School in Sacheon City. It will include lectures as well as hands-on experiences where students can build and launch mini rockets, helping them learn scientific principles and boost their curiosity.

On October 22nd, a career exploration seminar and talk concert on aerospace will be held at the Sacheon City Library for science-interested youths. Ahead of the upcoming Nuri launch attempt, Kwon Hyun-jun, head of the Space and Aviation Policy Bureau, will give a lecture on the history of Nuri’s challenges. Additional programs are planned at key schools like Gyeongnam Science High School between late October and November.

Yoon Young-bin, the head of the Space and Aviation Administration, stated, “Through this pilot program in the aerospace city of Sacheon, we aim to establish Sacheon as a hub for aerospace education and culture. We plan to expand career exploration programs to ensure youths across the country can grow into future talents.”
