How to Prevent KT Small Payment Fraud

**Basic Limit, Security Enhancement, and Complete Blocking: 3-Step Response Guide**

Although there have been no additional micropayment fraud incidents affecting KT users, concerns remain, leading to increased interest in methods to block such payments.

According to KT on the 14th, there are three methods to block micropayments: basic limit blocking, security enhancement blocking, and complete blocking.

**Basic Limit Blocking** involves setting the micropayment limit to zero or withdrawing consent through the KT website or MyKT app. This can be configured via the path “My Page → Billing/Service → View Bill → Mobile Payment History.” However, if personal information is leaked, there is a risk that a hacker could bypass this setting.

**Security Enhancement Blocking** can be implemented by applying for the ARS Safe Authentication service through the 114 customer center. An additional ARS confirmation step is added to the payment process. KT is also preparing to introduce additional security measures using biometric authentication such as fingerprints and PINs.

The most secure method is **Complete Blocking**, which permanently disables the micropayment feature. This can be requested through the dedicated customer center (080-722-0100).

From September 12th, KT decided to allow only PASS app authentication, which requires fingerprint or PIN input, for micropayment transactions in the gift card sector, instead of the previous text message or phone call verification, enhancing security.

Meanwhile, according to KT and the Ministry of Science and ICT, a total of 278 incidents amounting to approximately 170 million won in damages have been reported. KT is currently implementing measures to reduce micropayment limits and prevent further financial losses, with plans to fully compensate affected users.
