Democratic Party: “Impeachment Motion for Yoon to be Resolved on the 7th… Today, 8 People Accused of Treason”

Promoting a Standing Special Prosecutor for Treason Charges…Reported in General Assembly, ‘[Edaily Reporter Hwang Byung-seo] The Democratic Party of Korea announced its plan to pass an impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol on December 7.’,

Chief Spokesman Cho Seung-lae of the Democratic Party met with reporters on the morning of the 5th after an emergency supreme council meeting and stated, “It has been decided that the impeachment motion against President Yoon will be voted on the evening of December 7.” Regarding the selection of December 7 at 7 PM as the time for the vote, he explained, “There is a need to allow the public some time for national judgment on this impeachment motion, and similarly, to provide the People Power Party lawmakers with sufficient time to ponder upon their political decisions regarding unconstitutional, illegal acts of treason or coup d’état.”

Spokesman Cho commented on the strategy regarding stray votes, asking, “Wasn’t it the case that during the resolution to lift martial law, 18 People Power Party lawmakers attended and all voted in favor?” He praised their courage, expressing hope that they will show similar bravery to stop President Yoon.

Cho also mentioned plans to file accusations regarding treason charges, stating, “This afternoon, we will file a complaint with the police against President Yoon, former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, Minister of Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Martial Law Commander Park An-soo, Chief of Defense Security Command Yeo In-hyung, Capital Defense Commander Lee Jin-woo, Special Warfare Commander Park Jong-geun, and Police Chief Cho Ji-ho, a total of eight individuals.” He mentioned that the impeachment motion against Interior Minister Lee Sang-min is under consideration.

Furthermore, Cho announced the promotion of a standing special prosecutor concerning the treason charges. He stated, “We are pursuing a standing special prosecutor related to the treason charges, which will be reported and discussed in today’s general assembly. We aim to process the standing special prosecutor by December 10.”

Additionally, Cho mentioned, “On the 10th, we will proceed with the re-passage of the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor law and will conduct the prepared national investigations including into General Cha Hae-byeong.”
