President Yoon approved the dismissal of Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun… Choi Byung-hyuk, the ambassador to Saudi Arabia, appointed as successor.

\nPresident Yoon Suk-yeol has accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who had proposed martial law.

Presidential Chief of Staff Chung Jin-seok announced in a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office today (5th) that President Yoon has approved the dismissal of Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun following his resignation.

He also stated that Choi Byung-hyuk, the current ambassador to Saudi Arabia, has been nominated as the new minister candidate, describing him as a principled person capable of offering frank advice to his superiors, earning him solid trust within the military.

Previously, former Minister Kim Yong-hyun expressed his intention to resign in a statement sent to the press, acknowledging his responsibility as Defense Minister for causing public confusion and concern related to martial law and expressed his apologies.
