A public opinion poll conducted on December 5th revealed that 73% of the people support the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. According to the poll by Realmeter, commissioned by the Energy Economics Newspaper, conducted on December 4th with 504 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, 73.6% responded in favor of impeachment related to President Yoon’s martial law incident. Conversely, 23.9% opposed, and 2.4% were unsure.
Regionally, support was highest in Gwangju and Jeolla at 79.3%, followed by Incheon and Gyeonggi (77.3%), Daejeon, Chungcheong, and Sejong (74.0%), Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (72.9%), Seoul (68.9%), and Daegu and Gyeongbuk (66.2%). By age, support was strongest among those aged 18–29 (86.8%), 40s (85.3%), 50s (76.4%), 30s (72.3%), 60s (62.1%), and 70 years and older (56.8%).
Among ideological lines, 94.6% of progressives and 71.8% of moderates supported impeachment, while conservatives were split with 50.4% in favor and 48.0% against. Additionally, 69.5% of respondents believed the martial law incident constitutes treason, while 24.9% did not.
The survey was conducted with a 4.8% response rate, reaching out to adults nationwide via random dialing methods. The sampling error margin was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Further details are available on the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission’s website.
