The government will apply new allocation tariffs to seven agricultural and fishery products starting today (the 10th).
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Kim Byung-hwan stated during a special economic vice-ministerial meeting – which also served as a meeting for officials in charge of price matters – held at the Seoul Government Complex this morning that they will make every effort to respond to price stability, the most important indicator for people’s livelihoods.
The items subject to allocation tariffs include cabbage, grapes, cocoa beans, scallions, carrots, dried seaweed, and seasoned seaweed.
Regarding the recent sharp increase in the price of seaweed, a plan has been made to conduct on-site inspections of distribution markets by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Fair Trade Commission, and the Coast Guard, while also planning to develop new cultivation facilities covering 2,700 hectares in the long term.
Minister Kim mentioned that they will continue to release 110 tons of cabbage and 80 tons of radish daily in May, and import over 35,000 tons of directly imported fruits such as bananas, kiwis, and cherries by June.
During today’s meeting, support measures for corporate growth that back the dynamic economy were discussed, and specific plans will be announced next week.
