Trump: “Impose significant tariffs on countries that do not manufacture furniture in the U.S.”

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced on the 29th (local time) that he would impose significant tariffs on countries producing furniture outside the U.S.

President Trump stated on social media platform Truth Social, “To make North Carolina, which has had its furniture industry completely taken by China and other countries, great again, we will impose significant tariffs on any country not producing furniture within the United States.”

He added, “Details will be revealed later.”

North Carolina, one of the battleground states in the U.S. presidential election, was once the largest furniture production site in the U.S. based on its abundant timber resources. However, the rise in furniture imports from low-wage countries like China has dealt a blow to the furniture manufacturing industry.
