Trump, as soon as the automobile tariffs took effect, said “Semiconductor tariffs will start very soon.”

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced on the 3rd (local time) his intention to implement tariffs in the semiconductor sector soon.

During a conversation with reporters on a flight to Florida, President Trump mentioned, “The semiconductor (tariff) will be implemented very soon.” He added that “tariffs on pharmaceuticals are in a separate category” and are currently under review, with announcements expected in the near future.

Following the announcement to impose a 25% tariff on foreign automobiles, President Trump plans to introduce tariffs on semiconductors, bringing both of South Korea’s top export items to the US under the influence of “Trump-driven tariff storms.”

On the 2nd, President Trump announced a 10% “universal tariff” for all countries worldwide and planned to differentiate the tariff rates by country, calling it “reciprocal tariffs.”

Regarding the significant drop in the US stock market due to the reciprocal tariff announcement, President Trump stated it was “expected,” referring to the US economy as a “sick patient” that has been “operated on” and predicted an economic boom.

When asked about his willingness to negotiate on reciprocal tariffs, Trump mentioned, “It depends on whether they give us something good.” Reuters reported that Trump said he is open to negotiation if other countries provide something “phenomenal.”

Trump also mentioned the video-sharing site TikTok, owned by a Chinese company, indicating that China could say, “We can allow (the TikTok deal), but the US needs to do something about the tariffs.” He noted that tariffs give him significant negotiating power.

Last month, Trump stated that if China cooperates in selling TikTok’s US business rights to the US side, he could reduce tariffs on China.

Additionally, President Trump mentioned the introduction of a “gold card,” offering US residency for $5 million (approximately 7.1 billion won), stating it would be launched in two weeks and expressing excitement about it. He also mentioned he would be the first buyer.
