The Kremlin denies US reports claiming a phone call between Putin and Trump, stating it is “pure fiction.”

Russia has rejected U.S. reports that President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have had a phone call, stating that these reports are not true. According to foreign news agencies such as TASS and RIA Novosti, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated during a briefing on the 11th (local time) that the reports are “completely false and purely fictional. It’s entirely incorrect information.”

The U.S. daily Washington Post (WP) reported the previous day that Trump had a phone call with Putin on the 7th at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. According to WP, Trump reminded Putin about the significant U.S. military presence in Europe and advised against escalating the war in Ukraine.

Peskov pointed out that this is “the most obvious example of the quality of information reported by very reputable (U.S.) media.” He added that there are no specific plans for a conversation between President Putin and President-elect Trump yet.

Earlier, on the 7th, during an event at the Valdai Discussion Club, President Putin congratulated President-elect Trump on his election victory and mentioned that he was ready to have a conversation with him. On the same day, Trump commented in an interview with NBC that he anticipated talking with President Putin.
