Meta Unveils AI Glasses with Displays at Annual Conference
Global Big Tech Engages in Competition for Next-Gen Device Dominance
Competition for ‘Wearable AI Assistant’ Beyond Wearable Devices,
“Global big tech companies have officially entered the ‘smart glasses war’ over next-generation computing devices that go beyond smartphones. Following Meta’s unveiling of new AI glasses equipped with displays, Amazon, Google, and Chinese big tech firms have announced their market entries, positioning augmented reality (AR) glasses as a key stage for future device supremacy.”
, ‘Facebook’s parent company Meta revealed the ‘Meta-Ray-Ban Display’ at the ‘Meta Connect 2025’ event held on the 17th (local time) at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California. With a high-resolution display on one lens, users can instantly check text and message notifications, use video and translation features, and ensure outdoor readability with high resolution and brightness. Especially notable is the ‘Meta Neural Band’ worn on the wrist, which allows text input and music control through fine finger movements, presenting a first-ever alternative input method to smartphones. Priced at $799 (approximately 1.1 million won), it will be available for sale in the U.S. and other markets at the end of this month. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that “smart glasses are devices directly connected to users’ vision and hearing, facilitating the most natural communication with AI,” adding that “they will become an always-on personal assistant-like interface.”‘
, ‘The industry believes that Apple has also embarked on developing next-generation smart glasses following the ‘Vision Pro’. TF International Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported that “Apple is preparing a total of 7 XR devices by 2027, with 4 of them being glasses-based.” They are expected to incorporate a camera, microphone, speaker, and support for visually-based AI functions.’
, “Amazon is also developing two models named ‘Jayhawk’ and ‘Amelia’. Jayhawk, intended for consumers, features a full-color display, camera, microphone, and speaker, while Amelia is designed for delivery drivers, offering route guidance and sorting assistance in logistics settings. Amazon aims to launch consumer products by the end of 2026 to early 2027.”
, “Google, in collaboration with Samsung, is preparing smart glasses through the ‘Moohan’ project. An initial prototype was revealed at Google’s developer conference in May, with fashion brand Gentle Monster participating as a design partner to offer differentiation.”
, “Chinese big tech companies are also moving swiftly. Alibaba plans to release ‘Quark Vision’, priced at 1,999 yuan (around 380,000 won), within the year, focusing on practical features like navigation and mobile payments to secure price competitiveness. Xiaomi, Baidu, ByteDance, and others are also jumping into development, aiming to expand in both domestic and global markets.”
, ‘The industry sees the smart glasses competition not merely as a wearable device war but as a decisive battle for hegemony in the ‘post-smartphone’ era. An IT industry official commented, “Smart glasses are not just wearables but rather a next-generation interface where AI, platforms, and content converge. The company that first completes this ecosystem will likely seize market dominance.”‘
