According to USGS, the earthquake struck around 2:32 a.m. in an area located 21 km southeast of Aquila, near the border of the Mexican states of Colima and Michoacán.

The epicenter was at a latitude of 18.525 degrees north and a longitude of 103.316 degrees west, with a focal depth of 34.0 km.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated on social media platform X that emergency response teams were immediately activated in response to the strong earthquake.

President Sheinbaum explained that it seems there was no significant damage incurred.

Mexican authorities announced that there were no reports of damage in the capital, Mexico City, which is approximately 600 km away from the epicenter.

Videos posted by Michoacán residents on social media captured scenes of buildings shaking and parked vehicles swaying due to the earthquake.

Residents reportedly ran into the streets, waiting for the tremors to subside.

The Mexican National Seismological Service declared that there had been 329 aftershocks up to 9 a.m., with the main shock registered at a magnitude of 6.1.

There have been no reports or notifications regarding casualties or property damage from this earthquake.

Mexico, located within the Pacific Ring of Fire, is prone to frequent small and large earthquakes due to its active tectonic and volcanic activity.
