“Windows 10 Technical Support Ending Soon”… Ministry of Science and ICT to Operate Comprehensive Situation Room

“The Ministry of Science and ICT, in collaboration with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and Microsoft (MS), will operate the ‘Windows 10 End-of-Support Comprehensive Response Center’ as technical support for the Windows 10 operating system ends.”

“Technical support for Windows 10 is scheduled to end on October 14. From then on, Windows 10 users will no longer receive the new security patch services that were previously provided for free, increasing the risk of exposure to cyber threats, such as new malware infections. The Ministry of Science and ICT recommends updating to Windows 11 (for free).”

“The Comprehensive Response Center will monitor cyber threats that emerge from exploiting new vulnerabilities after Windows 10 technical support ends and will play a role in preventing damage spread by developing and distributing dedicated vaccines for new malware incidents. It will be composed of the Comprehensive Planning Team (collaborating with related organizations and external promotion), Technical Support Team (developing and distributing dedicated vaccines), Situation Team (monitoring situations, responding to incidents, spreading information), and Customer Service Team (providing specialized consultation services regarding the end of Windows 10).”

“In addition, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to strengthen public promotion about the necessity of updating to Windows 11 and conduct checks on the OS status of major information and communication infrastructure.”

“Choi Woo-hyuk, Director-General of the Information Security Network Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, ‘With the end of Windows 10 technical support, there is concern about zero-day attacks exploiting security vulnerabilities. The government will focus on minimizing damage to individuals and businesses through the Comprehensive Response Center and urges individuals and businesses to be mindful of security by updating to Windows 11.'”
