“Through ICT industry standards, the benefits of digital technology to everyone”

Ministry of Science and ICT and Korean Intellectual Property Office to Host ‘Global ICT Standard Conference’ in Yangjae Until the 6th,

‘(Seoul=News1) Reporter Yoon Ju-young = The government is exploring ways to enhance access to digital technologies using ICT industry standards and considering universal benefits.’

“The Ministry of Science and ICT, in collaboration with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, is hosting the ‘Global ICT Standard Conference 2024’ (GISC 2024) from the 4th to the 6th of this month at El Tower in Yangjae, Seocho-gu, Seoul.”

‘GISC is an opportunity to share trends and key achievements in international digital standardization and discuss future development directions. It has been held annually since 2017.’

“This year’s theme is ‘ICT Standards and Intellectual Property: Inclusive Innovation.’ In the current scenario, as digital technology advances, the number of digitally disadvantaged groups is also increasing. The conference aims to discuss ways for all individuals to access and utilize digital technology.”

“The conference is particularly linked with the ’48th ISO·IEC JTC 1 Plenary Meeting’ taking place in Korea this year. JTC is a joint technical committee under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), overseeing international standardization activities in the information technology field.”

‘At the opening ceremony on the 4th, Stefan Engel-Fleischig, COO of the Open RAN Alliance, will emphasize cooperation with standardization organizations and present the current state and development plans of O-RAN.’

“Sung-Hwan Cho, President of ISO, will deliver a keynote speech on ‘The Future of ICT Standards,’ stressing the role of standardization bodies in bridging the digital divide through ICT innovation. Phil Wennblom, Chair of the ISO·IEC JTC 1 Plenary, will discuss global trends in ICT standards, major issues, and responsive strategies.”

‘During the event, various programs will be held, including presentations from ICT Patent Management Award-winning companies, a National Strategic Technology Standard Seminar, an ICT Standards Patent Seminar, a Digital Inclusive Growth Innovation Seminar, and ICT Standard Insights.’

‘The National Strategic Technology Standard Seminar will consist of five sessions on artificial intelligence (AI) and data, digital content, next-generation communications, next-generation security, and quantum information communication. Here, lectures on key technologies necessary for digital inclusion will be conducted.’

“On the final day, a ‘Carbon Neutral Standard Framework Public Hearing’ will introduce the carbon neutrality policy directions of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, along with measures required for transitioning to a carbon-neutral society. Topics include reducing carbon emissions through the digitization of efficiency, cutting carbon emissions in the industrial sector using digital technologies, and the necessary technology standards for creating a green digital ecosystem.”

‘Kang Do-hyun, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “For digital technology to become a true innovation, inclusivity is necessary for all members of society to reap the benefits evenly. The Ministry of Science and ICT will support digital innovation technology through standards, which are promises to the industry and market, so that it can provide opportunities for everyone.”‘
