Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy S25 series, equipped with enhanced artificial intelligence (AI) features. On the 22nd (local time), Samsung held the ‘Galaxy Unpacked 2025’ event in San Jose, California, located in Silicon Valley, to announce the launch of their latest smartphones.

The Galaxy S25 series has significantly upgraded AI features compared to the Galaxy S24 series, the world’s first AI smartphone released last year.

During his keynote speech, TM Roh, President of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, stated, “Exactly one year ago, we launched the first AI mobile phone powered by Galaxy AI,” adding that “the Galaxy S24 series opened up new ways for creation, communication, and productivity.”

He further noted, “But what lies ahead is even more exciting” and “Today, we are once again setting the standard for mobile AI innovation and making it a reality through Samsung Galaxy S25.”

Samsung Electronics explained that if the previous model was the beginning of AI feature integration, the Galaxy S25 series marks the start of smartphones equipped with a complete AI architecture.

They emphasized, “Through a more advanced Galaxy AI, it offers the most intuitive and easy AI experience to date,” highlighting it as a true AI smartphone and an AI companion.

This move appears to distinguish itself from competitors such as Apple, which has included AI features since last year but has not yet fully realized their capabilities.

The new series features the first integrated AI platform in Galaxy history, ‘One UI 7.’

‘One UI’ is the user interface for Samsung devices, including Galaxy. Samsung Electronics stated that “One UI was redesigned from the ground up for this series three years ago” and “designed to be used really easily in everyday life.”

With ‘One UI 7′, app connectivity is strengthened, allowing AI to navigate seamlessly between apps without the user having to search for them one by one.

For instance, when you ask AI to summarize content while watching YouTube, it automatically transfers the summarized content to Samsung Notes.

AI understands the user’s situation, analyzes preferences to implement a personalized AI experience, and offers advanced conversational technology for a more natural mobile experience.

AI can find photos in the gallery containing thousands of images by simply entering keywords like date and location, and it provides personalized briefing (Now Brief) by analyzing users’ usage patterns.

It acts like a personal assistant by informing you of necessary information such as weather, schedule, and sleep scores, and recommends news on sites frequently visited by users who view the news every morning.

The series is also equipped with a multi-modal feature that simultaneously analyzes and processes various types of information. A new AI button allows users to input commands conversationally by pressing it.

With one voice command like “Find Son Heung-min’s Tottenham match schedule next week and add it to the calendar,” the request is executed immediately.

In collaboration with Google, the search function ‘Circle to Search’ embedded in the previous model has evolved to support sound searches from YouTube and other apps in addition to images and text.

The ‘Real-time Translation’ feature has expanded to 20 languages, and additional features such as ‘Text Conversion,’ ‘Call Summary,’ and a ‘Writing Assistant’ based on generative AI have been added.

The new series comes with Google’s AI model, Gemini, as the default, designed to integrate seamlessly with apps, even if other AI models are attached in the future.

The chipset features the ‘Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy’, developed in collaboration with Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics.

Compared to the previous model, Samsung stated that the performance of the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) improved by 40%, while the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) improved by 37% and 30%, respectively.

This chipset is equipped with the ‘ProScaler’ function that clearly expresses various types of content based on AI algorithms for the first time, improving image quality by over 40%. Samsung’s mDNIe solution is built-in to enhance image quality and power efficiency.

The camera is equipped with a high-resolution sensor and next-generation AI-based ‘Pro-visual Engine’ to provide a detailed high-quality image capturing experience from afar.

The top-tier model, Ultra, features a new 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

Samsung’s own AI technology has added video editing features, allowing the removal or adjustment of voices, ambient sounds, noise, and wind noise in videos with just a click (Audio Eraser).

The design features slightly rounded corners, with reduced bezels by 15%, resulting in a larger display.

The thickness has decreased by 0.4mm, and the weight is about 6% lighter.

The new series will be released sequentially worldwide, starting on February 7th, including in Korea, with pre-sales in Korea from January 24th to February 3rd.

The domestic sales price will stay the same as the S24 series.

Samsung also unveiled a teaser video and the actual design of the slim model, ‘Galaxy S25 Edge,’ which is known to be thinner and lighter than existing smartphones, garnering significant global attention. The release date and specifications have not been disclosed.
