Launch of the International Organization for Standardization of Advanced Aviation and Transportation G3AM, the ‘world’s first’.

Established with the participation of 63 Korean companies including Korean Air and overseas companies to create advanced aviation standards, the government has launched the world’s first international organization to take the lead in advanced air traffic management (AAM) international standardization.

On the 14th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that they held the inauguration ceremony of the world’s first international institution in the AAM field, the G3AM, at the Sky31 Conference Hall in Lotte World Tower in Seoul.

AAM encompasses urban air mobility (UAM) focusing on short distances and regional air traffic management (RAM) for medium to long distances. It is gaining attention as a future transportation method in terms of expanding transportation rights and solving environmental issues of existing transportation means. AAM is an important area where various digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), mobile communication, and data are applied to secure international standards for interoperability, reliability, and sustainability.

G3AM, launched on that day, is an international institution established to develop, maintain, and manage new standards in various fields such as information sharing systems, traffic management and operational control, essential navigation performance, and to ensure interoperability and compatibility. Domestic experts took a leading role in its establishment.

As founding members, 63 key domestic companies in the AAM sector including Korean Air, Incheon International Airport Corporation, Fine Robotics, Hanwha Systems, Korea Airports Corporation, Hyundai Motor, and the three mobile carriers (SKT, KT, LGU+) participated, along with multinational companies in the AAM sector such as Onesky, Skyports, and ANRA Technologies.

During the event, John S. Walker, chairman of the International Standards Organization for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, will present on the role of international organizations in supporting AAM.

During the inaugural conference, Korean Air will present a successful case of the Korean Urban Air Mobility (K-UAM). Hanwha Systems and the aerospace industry will present the next-generation electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOL) and future aircraft (AAV), while the three mobile carriers will discuss trends in AAM business.

Skyports, a leading global company in the vertical take-off and landing field that joined G3AM as a member last year, will announce the development status of Vertiport infrastructure.

Jeon Young-soo, Deputy Minister of Science and ICT, Information and Communication Industry Policy, stated, “We will support G3AM to establish itself as an internationally recognized institution for standardization, playing a central role in the development of advanced aviation technology and ecosystem.”
