**AI System ‘Apple Intelligence’ to Release Some Features Next Week**
(San Francisco = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Tae-jong = Apple is starting to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) features into its devices such as iPhones.
On the 23rd (local time), Apple announced that it will officially release the new iPhone operating system, iOS 18.1, next week.
iOS 18 is the new operating system for iPhones this year, and iOS 18.1 includes some functions of Apple’s AI system, ‘Apple Intelligence.’
This version allows call recording and can convert recordings into text. The AI summarizes this text to present important information at a glance.
It helps users quickly grasp the key points of lengthy emails, and important notifications, including emails, are displayed at the top of the screen for easy recognition. It can automatically identify and remove distracting elements in photos.
The AI voice assistant, ‘Siri,’ has become smarter.
‘Siri’ now understands what the user really wants, even if they make a mistake or change the details mid-sentence.
Apple also announced that it will release a beta version of iOS 18.2, a more upgraded version, as a preview for some developers.
iOS 18.2 contains major features of Apple Intelligence.
Firstly, it integrates OpenAI’s ChatGPT, allowing ‘Siri’ to use ChatGPT to provide answers to complex questions or problems.
If ‘Siri’ determines that ChatGPT’s answer is more appropriate for a user’s specific query, it will provide the answer through ChatGPT with the user’s permission.
In May, Apple formed a partnership with OpenAI to enable this. Apple also mentioned that other AI models, like Google’s Gemini, could be integrated with Apple Intelligence.
Additionally, it includes features that allow users to create new emojis and automatically generate images based on input text or specific requirements.
It also allows users to change the tone of selected text or make sentences more concise.
Features where ‘Siri’ carries out tasks within specific apps, like sending messages to friends or changing music playback modes, will be added later.
The iOS 18.2 version, which includes ChatGPT, is expected to be released to the general public within the year.
