Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) system, “Apple Intelligence,” will now be available in Korean. The developer version of iOS 18.4 update has added Korean support for Apple Intelligence. The official operating system (OS) for general users is expected to be released as early as March.
According to industry reports on the 23rd, Apple has included support for eight languages—Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, French, German, and Italian—in the iOS 18.4 update. The company also introduced localized English for India and Singapore.
After this software update, the Korean version of Apple Intelligence can be used on all Apple devices, such as iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple Intelligence was officially launched last September alongside the iPhone 16 series, but it was initially available only in English-speaking countries for nearly half a year. The first update supported only American English, but by late last year, it expanded to include the standard English of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.
About six months after the launch of AI iPhones and Apple Intelligence, it has now become possible to use it in major languages, including Korean. However, not all features of Apple Intelligence will be available in Korean.
The OS update includes Korean for specific functions: writing tools in Apple Intelligence, the ‘cleanup’ feature in the Photos app, smart replies in Mail, prioritized notifications, improvements in Siri’s voice recognition and contextual understanding, Siri and ChatGPT integration, and visual intelligence features using the camera control capabilities of the iPhone 16 series.
The writing feature can automatically rewrite, correct, and summarize texts. While previously available only in English, it is now expected to offer natural corrections and summaries in Korean.
The much-anticipated Siri upgrade, which was highlighted right after Apple Intelligence’s release, will also include Korean. The enhanced Siri, integrated with Apple Intelligence, can understand screen content and perform required actions with user consent, allowing seamless text and voice interactions. Additionally, through Siri, it can connect to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
