AI-generated webtoon short videos… Kakao Entertainment launches ‘Helix Shorts’

Kakao Entertainment has launched ‘Helix Shorts,’ a short-form video format for webtoons created by AI, and completed its application to all users of Kakao Page, as announced on the 22nd.

‘Helix Shorts’ is the third AI technology-based service following ‘Helix Push’ and ‘Helix Curation.’ It introduces a new way of exploring content through automated video production technology and leads innovation in user experience.

‘Helix Shorts’ is an AI-based technology that automatically converts webtoons into short video formats (shorts). The completed shorts are displayed on the home screen of the Kakao Page application, helping users intuitively understand the storyline and key points of the work.

Notably, the production time for one short, which previously took three weeks, has been reduced to about three hours, and production costs have decreased significantly from 2 million won to approximately 60,000 won. Creators can also effectively expose more works.

The AI personalization-based automatic programming technology recommends shorts according to the user’s tastes and preferences, significantly increasing the likelihood of leading to content views. The AI deeply analyzes key elements of webtoons, such as speech bubbles, automatically summarizes the plot, and generates narration sentences for the shorts.

A representative from Kakao Entertainment stated, “With Helix Shorts, we can provide users with an intuitive content exploration experience and creators with a new opportunity to effectively promote their works. Kakao Entertainment will continue to research and develop AI technology for the sustainable growth of the creative ecosystem.”
