Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People’s Power Party, expressed opposition to the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, following a statement by the party leader Han Dong-hoon. Han had called for the immediate suspension of President Yoon’s duties, citing concerns about plans to arrest key politicians under martial law. In a post on his social network service, Yoon stated, “Martial law under President Yoon cannot and should not be justified under any circumstances.” However, he emphasized that a clear apology and accountability from President Yoon are necessary.
Yoon continued, stating that the martial law issue requires thorough investigation, fact-checking, and legal examination, in line with constitutional principles and the rule of law. He noted that investigations are ongoing, and legal authorities have already begun their probes, urging the party to manage the situation seriously.
On social media, users debated Yoon’s stance. Some criticized him for downplaying serious accusations, while others, presumed to be supporters of the People’s Power Party, defended martial law as the legitimate authority of the president.
Previously, during an emergency meeting, Han argued that the emerging facts necessitate halting President Yoon’s duties to protect the nation. Han expressed concerns that continuing Yoon’s presidency could lead to repeated extreme actions like the martial law incident, posing significant risks to the country and its citizens.
