Yoo Seung-min: “Lee Jae-myung is the weakest… If another candidate emerges, the election will be more at risk.”

Former People Power Party member Yoo Seung-min claimed that Lee Jae-myung is the ‘weakest candidate’ concerning the possibility of an early presidential election.

In an interview on January 22nd with YTN Radio’s ‘Shin Yul’s News Showdown’, Yoo stated, “I always argue that Lee Jae-myung’s trials should proceed quickly, but if his trials are delayed, and President Yoon Seok-youl is impeached leading to an early election without Lee’s trials concluding, he would inevitably run.”

He added, “If the People Power Party nominates a truly clean and capable candidate to challenge Lee Jae-myung, Lee would be the weakest opponent. The public harbors doubts about Lee’s various judicial risks, criminal charges, and the way he authoritarianly controlled the Democratic Party in the last general election, questioning if he truly supports democracy.”

Furthermore, Yoo emphasized the importance of national pillars being economic security, expressing that “Lee Jae-myung’s economic and security policies are genuinely dangerous.”

He continued, “If such policies continue for five years, South Korea’s economy and security could be in immense peril. Therefore, if we nominate a truly clean and capable candidate, Lee Jae-myung would be the weakest opponent.”

However, he also remarked, “If Lee Jae-myung disappears and another candidate emerges as the Democratic Party’s nominee, it could be more dangerous. Currently, it’s the conservative side that has caused chaos with impeachment and martial law, potentially making the election highly risky.”
