The People’s Power Party says “The opposition colluded with the NPA”… They have accused Lee Sang-sik of the Democratic Party.

Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, is speaking at the general assembly held at the National Assembly on the 8th. The People Power Party has claimed that Woo Jong-soo, the Director of the National Investigation Headquarters, and Lee Sang-sik, a member of the Democratic Party, colluded with regard to the execution of President Yoon Suk-yeol’s arrest warrant. They announced plans to file charges against Lee and others on the 9th for abuse of authority, violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, and leaking official secrets.

On the 8th, the People Power Party held a protest at the National Assembly, stating, “We will uncover the collusion incident between the Democratic Party and the National Investigation Headquarters.” Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong said in a condemnation letter about Lee’s social media post, “It is essentially a confession that the Democratic Party is colluding with the police to effectively command the National Investigation Headquarters.”

Floor Leader Kwon urged the Democratic Party to “stop colluding with some police personnel to exploit state confusion, thereby reducing the Korean police to a political police force.” He demanded that Representative Lee disclose his call records and that Woo Jong-soo resign immediately. He further warned, “If the facts of collusion are revealed, they will be judged by the law.”

Lee had posted on his social media the previous day, “I’ve been busy serving as a messenger between our party and the National Investigation Headquarters, with nonstop calls and meetings.” He added, “If President Yoon’s arrest warrant is reissued this evening and the retrial of the insurrection special prosecutor proceeds tomorrow, stormy days will continue.” He encouraged and supported his police colleagues to surely arrest the “insurrection leader Yoon Suk-yeol.” However, after controversy arose over his post, he deleted the part about serving as a messenger between the party and the National Investigation Headquarters.

The People Power Party decided to file charges with the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office against Lee, an unnamed Democratic Party figure, and a National Investigation Headquarters official for abuse of authority, violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, and leaking official secrets.

Joo Jin-woo, the party’s legal advisor, stated via a press notice, “The three conspired to share confidential insurrection investigation details, which should be handled independently by the National Investigation Headquarters. Through meetings and communication, they discussed and carried out investigation methods, effectively allowing the Democratic Party to command the National Investigation Headquarters’ investigation, thus undermining the country’s normal investigation system, abusing their authority, and revealing official secrets.”
