The Democratic Party proposes a plenary session and a livelihood-economic council on the 2nd of next month… “Calls for cooperation from the People Power Party.”

The Democratic Party of Korea has called on the People Power Party to stop delaying livelihood-related legislation and requested their cooperation in reactivating the Economic Livelihood Cooperation Committee and holding a plenary session on October 2.

Kim Byeong-gi, the Democratic Party’s floor leader, expressed regret and disappointment in today’s (30th) parliamentary meeting, stating, “It is truly regrettable and disappointing that the People’s Power Party has wasted precious citizens’ time and the golden time for the economy with their unproductive filibuster.”

Despite this, Leader Kim emphasized, “Let’s immediately reactivate the stalled economic livelihood consultation group and swiftly discuss and implement solutions on urgent issues directly affecting the people’s lives, such as overcoming disasters and stabilizing prices. We await an answer from the People Power Party.”

Han Jeong-ae, the Policy Committee Chair, also stated, “After four days and five nights of a plenary session warped by the People Power Party into a battleground, we’ve finally managed to pass reform bills through much turmoil. The People Power Party must reflect on continually ignoring the public. Has there ever been an opposition that obstructed the new government this much?” she remarked critically.

She further urged for collaboration, emphasizing, “Instead of political strife, let’s work for the people and their livelihoods. Over 60 livelihood bills are held up in the plenary session due to an unlimited debate. We once again ask for the opposition’s cooperation to process these bills before the Chuseok holiday.”

Moon Jin-seok, the Deputy Floor Leader for Operations, stressed, “If prioritizing the people’s welfare is truly the focus, responses should come in the form of livelihood bills protecting citizens’ lives, not political calculations or partisan interests. The National Assembly should not be a stage for political strife but a legislative body for the people.”

He pointed out, “The dual behavior of proclaiming support for the people while blocking livelihood measures will no longer be tolerated. Speed is essential in passing livelihood bills. A single day’s delay prolongs the people’s suffering and causes the country’s competitiveness to fall behind.”

He concluded by suggesting, “What’s needed now is an immediate decision and swift action. Accordingly, we propose holding a plenary session aimed at processing livelihood bills on October 2, Thursday.”

He also recalled, “Last week, Floor Leader Song Eon-seok of the People Power Party expressed so desire for uncontested livelihood bills to be processed quickly. Now it’s time to turn those words into action.”
