The Democratic Party files a complaint against ruling party’s Joo Jin-woo for spreading false information, claiming “Lee Jae-myung opposes live broadcast of trial.”

The Democratic Party has announced that it has filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Joo Jin-woo, the legal advisory committee chairman of the People Power Party, accusing him of defamation by spreading false information. The complaint was filed following a statement made by Joo on the 13th, in which he expressed “deep regret that Lee Jae-myung, the party leader, ignored the public’s right to know and opposed the live broadcast of his first trial for violating the Public Official Election Act.” The Democratic Party claims this statement is factually incorrect.

The Democratic Party further clarified that during the process when the court was considering whether to broadcast the trial live, neither Lee Jae-myung nor his legal team expressed any opinion, and they have consistently stated their intention to respect the court’s decision. Despite requesting Joo to officially correct the false information and apologize, the Democratic Party claims that he dismissed their request as “an unreasonable assertion” and further spread false information by suggesting that since Lee did not object, he opposed the live broadcast by remaining silent.

The Democratic Party argues that these actions are clear attempts to damage Lee’s reputation and demanded a swift and rigorous investigation by the police to hold Joo accountable.
