President Lee Jae-myung has appointed four deputy special prosecutors for the second comprehensive investigation, which will examine issues and additional suspicions not covered in the three major special investigations (rebellion, Kim Kun-hee, Sergeant Chae).
Kang Yoo-jung, the Blue House spokesperson, announced today (23rd) that President Lee has appointed Kwon Young-bin (31st Judicial Research and Training Institute), Kim Jung-min (15th Military Judicial Officer), Kim Ji-mi (37th Judicial Research and Training Institute), and Jin Eul-jong (37th Judicial Research and Training Institute) from among the candidates requested by Special Prosecutor Kwon Chang-young for the second comprehensive investigation.
Previously, Special Prosecutor Kwon requested candidates for deputy special prosecutors from the Korean Bar Association and other organizations and requested their appointment from the Blue House.
According to the special prosecutor law, President Lee must appoint five deputy special prosecutors within five days of the request.
With the deputy special prosecutor appointments concluded, it is expected that personnel will be successively assigned to take on the investigative duties.
The special prosecutor can request the dispatch of up to 15 prosecutors and 130 government officials from the prosecution, police, Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, and the three major special prosecutors.
With the possibility of appointing up to 100 special investigators and including the special prosecutor and deputy prosecutors, the special prosecution team could consist of up to 251 people.
The second special prosecutor can operate for up to 170 days, including a 20-day preparation period.
