The Democratic Party’s floor leader, Park Chan-dae, urged on the 11th that Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Choi Sang-mok, should “immediately appoint constitutional court judge candidate Ma Eun-hyuk and request the recommendation of the special prosecutor for the rebellion as well as promulgate the Myung Tae-kyun special prosecutor act.”
Floor leader Park made this statement during a policy meeting at the National Assembly, stating, “Acting President Choi should not miss this last opportunity.”
Park criticized, “Acting President Choi, contrary to his words after the emergency martial law of December 3rd, is actually aiding rebellion in his actions, violating the constitution and laws,” and insisted that he should be denounced for “shoving the country into chaos.”
He further condemned, “It has been 75 days since the National Assembly passed the consent for appointing three constitutional court judges recommended by the Assembly, and 12 days since the constitutional court ruled the non-appointment of candidate Ma unconstitutional, yet they still refuse to appoint candidate Ma today. I have never seen a public official so blatantly disregard the constitutional court’s decision.”
He added, “Regarding the Myung Tae-kyun special prosecutor act, he is fiddling with the veto. The situation of infringing the legislative powers of the National Assembly is severe.” The deadline for a re-request or promulgation of the special prosecutor act is the 15th.
Floor leader Park also claimed, “Acting President Choi is just as guilty as the rebel leader Yoon Seok-youl. He bears significant responsibility for letting the rebellion run rampant and creating a chaotic nation. As time passes, the responsibility for turning the nation into a lawless land will heap up like a mountain.”
Park also pointed out Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung, stating, “He exacerbated the people’s anxiety and confusion by releasing the rebel leader Yoon Seok-youl, giving him the opportunity to destroy evidence and flee.”
Moreover, he warned, “Despite this, Prosecutor General Sim, the main culprit of all these incidents, refused to resign with lame excuses. All that remains is the disgraceful ‘pursuit of power,’ devoid of any conscience or honor,” indicating, “They will have to pay the price.”
