Kim Moon-soo’s camp states, “Our promise for unification remains unchanged… Leadership should stop the pressure.”

Kim Moon-soo and Han Duck-soo Scheduled for a Solo Meeting at 6 PM Today: “We’ll Talk Openly…Pressure from the Party Must Stop”

Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate from the People Power Party, and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo are set to meet one-on-one at 6 PM on the 7th. Kim’s team has stated that their stance on unification remains unchanged, criticizing the party leadership for hindering smooth unification with Han Duck-soo. They emphasized that pressure to unify should stop.

Kim Jae-won, Chief of Staff for Kim Moon-soo’s campaign, appeared on MBC Radio’s “Focus” on the 7th, reiterating that Kim intends to honor his promise to unify and that his commitment to this promise remains steadfast. He mentioned that they plan to have a candid conversation during their meeting.

Kim Jae-won explained that Kim Moon-soo underwent a rigorous primary process within the party to become the candidate and is actively campaigning as such. Contrarily, Han Duck-soo entered the race late and is demanding unification from Kim Moon-soo, who went through a challenging internal contest.

He further stressed that if Kim Moon-soo decides not to relinquish his status as the People Power Party candidate, the notion of unification becomes invalid. Kim has already taken on the political burden of stepping back as a candidate for unification. Therefore, Kim should lead the unification negotiations, not some third-party force or the party organization.

Criticizing the party for its pressure tactics, Kim Jae-won noted that there were many missed opportunities for smooth unification after the party convention. However, with multiple factors intervening and conspiracy theories spreading, the process has been derailed by wrongful actions.

He stated that for unification efforts to proceed smoothly, the party leadership, which is supposed to support the presidential candidate, should stop pressuring the candidate. If they continue to impose deadlines, pressure, or even attempt to unseat the candidate, it will make it difficult for him to respond positively, and these actions must cease.

Kim also addressed the recent nationwide committee and party convention announcements, arguing that there is no provision for appointing another candidate within the party’s regulations.

The People Power Party announced the convening of its 6th party convention and 15th national committee on May 5th, with the convention scheduled between the 10th and 11th and the committee between the 8th and 11th. The details on time and agenda will be announced later.

In a statement, Kim expressed regret over the party’s actions, suggesting that they do not recognize him as the official candidate. The ongoing difficulties created by the party’s measures are casting doubts and obstructing the unification process.
