“The party has refrained from commenting on self-harming issues… exploiting this to create division”
“Criticism on the party board is possible”

On the 25th, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, addressed the controversy surrounding the party’s member board, emphasizing anonymity. He stated, “It seems to be in line with attempts to shake and attack the party leader.” He argued that demands to “reveal and find out who wrote” critical posts about the president are ideas that cannot be entertained in a democratic party. /Report by Nam Yoon-ho

Han Dong-hoon made a statement on the board controversy, asserting, “It seems to be in line with attempts to shake and attack the party leader.”

At a briefing with reporters following the party’s top committee meeting, Han said, “I have consistently refrained from commenting on self-destructive issues within the party. However, there is a tendency to exploit this restraint to create division, so today I will speak in detail.”

Referring to controversies like the ‘read and ignore’ text scandal, the general election report, and Kim Dae-nam, which involved himself and the ruling party, he noted, “If you recall, I refrained from making remarks publicly as I believed it was not helpful to the party.” He further explained, “I did not want to aid forces trying to unnecessarily escalate these issues.”

Han emphasized the importance of anonymity on the party board and argued against identifying and targeting authors of contentious posts.

He stated, “The party board is an anonymous space provided for members to write freely,” adding, “Criticizing figures, whether it’s the leader or any other, is naturally permissible there.” He criticized demands to “reveal and find out who criticized the president” as an idea unacceptable in a democratic party.

Regarding articles posted under his family’s names, he commented, “Most of it is editorial opinion. I consider them permissible expressions as long as they don’t cross the line.”

Han emphasized his commitment to fulfilling his duties as party leader with a focus on change and renewal. He explained, “The fact that I formed a task force to improve the primary system based on surveys today should be understood in the same context.” At the top committee meeting, Han announced the formation of this task force as a response to recent allegations of primary election interference by Myung Tae-kyun and to address manipulations in survey-based elections.
