Minjoo Party member Rep. Choi Min-hee, Chairperson of the National Assembly Science, Technology, Information, and Communication Committee, said, “The Minjoo Party leadership has decided to recommend Minjoo Party’s share of broadcasting and communications committee members based on the principle of sincerity and faith.”
Chairperson Choi stated at a full committee meeting of the Science and Technology Committee held today (21st) for the third hearing on “Broadcasting Dominance,” “The Minjoo Party will proceed with the process of appointing Democratic Party’s share of broadcasting committee members through a fair procedure through public competition.”
Chairperson Choi added, “It is the official position and hope of the Minjoo Party that President Yoon Seok-yeol appoints two broadcasting committee members recommended by the Minjoo Party and that the ruling and opposition parties together re-recommend the public broadcast directors.”
Gukminuihim Party’s Floor Leader Choi Hyung-doo argued, “There would have been no problem with the appointment of public broadcast directors by the Broadcasting Committee if the Broadcasting Committee had been a ‘5-member system,’ but it has evolved in an abnormal direction leading to the impeachment recommendation of the Broadcasting Committee chairperson due to the failure of the ruling and opposition parties to restore the 5-member system.”
In response, Chairperson Choi asked, “Will the Gukminuihimi Party fulfill its role as the ruling party and promptly restore the 5-member system if the Minjoo Party recommends broadcasting committee members, and will President Yoon Seok-yeol immediately appoint them?” to which Rep. Choi replied positively, saying, “We hope for a prompt restoration of the 5-member system. The Gukminuihimi Party will keep the faith in that regard.”
Chairperson Choi emphasized, “The Minjoo Party must also approve the person recommended by the Gukminuihimi Party at the plenary session.”
