“Yoon Unlikely to Accept Dismissal”
Park Beom-gye, Chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary 1st Subcommittee, is giving a report during a plenary session of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 19th. Newsis
‘[Financial News] On the 4th, Park Beom-gye, a member of the National Assembly Impeachment Prosecution Team and a Democratic Party lawmaker, commented on President Yoon Suk-yeol’s absence from the impeachment trial’s verdict, stating it suggests he anticipates his own dismissal.’
‘In an interview with SBS Radio’s Kim Tae-hyun’s Political Show on the same day, Park stated, “When a person is not in custody and does not attend the verdict, it suggests that contextually, the person anticipates their own dismissal.”‘
‘Park noted that unlike former President Park Geun-hye, who didn’t attend her trial from the beginning, President Yoon attended most sessions of his impeachment trial, only stepping out briefly without arguing at times.’
‘He also mentioned, “Based on recent movements of the judges and within the Constitutional Court, it seems they are hinting at a dismissal.” He argued that if the dismissal ruling comes, President Yoon might not accept it and might send a message to those who support him strongly.’
‘Regarding President Yoon’s lack of a statement before the verdict, Park suggested, “Recent silence might reflect feelings of self-reproach, thinking that if he had focused on eleven arguments more earnestly and shown some reflection, he might have avoided a dismissal ruling.”‘
‘Additionally, when asked if he expects an 8-0 decision, Park replied, “We are moving towards a decision that might be 6-2, 7-1, or 8-0,” adding that there is a possibility of deliberation today, and there might be a 7-1 case aiming for 8-0 as well.’\n
