President Yoon Seok-yeol’s approval rating for national affairs has dropped to the early 20% range, according to the results of a survey released on the 30th.

The Gallup Korea, a polling organization, conducted a survey on the performance of President Yoon among 1,002 adults aged 18 and older from the 27th to the 29th. The positive evaluation rate was 23%, the second lowest approval rating since President Yoon took office, following a 21% rating recorded at the end of April. It shows a 4% point decrease compared to the previous week’s rating at 27%.

The negative evaluation increased by 3% points from the previous survey to 66%.

Among supporters of the main opposition party, 57% responded that President Yoon is ‘doing well,’ while among those aged 70 and older, it was 50%. On the other hand, 90% or more supporters of the ruling Democratic Party and the minor opposition party felt that President Yoon is ‘doing poorly,’ with 84% in their 40s.

The top reason for positive evaluation was ‘diplomacy’ at 17%. This was followed by ‘decisiveness, drive, and determination’ at 8%, ‘national defense and security,’ ‘expanding medical school quotas,’ ‘economy and livelihood’ at 5%.

The top reason for negative evaluation was ‘economy, livelihood, and prices’ at 14%. ‘Expanding medical school quotas’ increased by 6% points from the previous survey to 8%, ‘poor communication’ at 8%, ‘dictatorial and unilateral decisions,’ ‘overall wrong decisions’ at 7%, ‘relations with Japan’, ‘diplomacy’ at 5%.

In terms of party support, the main opposition party garnered 30% support, the ruling Democratic Party received 31%, and the minor opposition party garnered 7%. The non-aligned population stood at 26%. The main opposition party decreased by 2% points compared to the previous survey, while the ruling party remained at the same level. The minor party decreased by 1% point.

The survey was conducted through telephone interviews with randomly selected mobile phone virtual numbers. The sampling error was ±3.1% points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 12.1%. For more details, please refer to the website of the Central Election Poll Oversight Committee.
