Disney’s animation “Zootopia 2” is expected to achieve the second-largest box office performance for a movie released during the Thanksgiving week in North America. According to Box Office Mojo, a U.S. movie revenue tracking site, “Zootopia 2,” which was released on the 26th, has grossed $59.2 million, approximately 87 billion won, in ticket sales within two days until the 27th.
If you add the $74 million earned from regions outside North America, the worldwide total revenue amounts to $133.2 million, about 195.8 billion won. According to Hollywood media outlets such as Variety and Deadline, “Zootopia 2” added an additional $38.5 million, around 56.6 billion won, in ticket sales on the day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, in North America.
Industry experts predict that this animation will gross over $155 million, roughly 227.9 billion won, in North America during the first five days of its release, including the weekend. This figure falls short of the all-time highest-grossing film for the Thanksgiving week, “Moana 2” (2024, $225 million in five days), but surpasses other box office hits released around the same time, like “Frozen 2” (2019, $125 million in five days) and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” (2013, $109 million in five days).
Variety reported that “Zootopia 2” is expected to earn an additional $135 million to $145 million (approximately 198.5 billion to 213.2 billion won) from markets outside North America during its first week of release. In particular, the film achieved a comparable level of box office success in China, grossing over $54 million, roughly 79.4 billion won, in just two days.
Despite ongoing tensions between North America over trade negotiations, Variety noted that the sequel to “Zootopia” has become one of the few Hollywood films to garner a positive response in the Chinese box office post-COVID-19.
