The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 10th that they are holding a contest for “regional travel products” that capture the authentic charm of various areas by collaborating with Tourism Dure community enterprises, until the 28th.
Tourism Dure is a project that supports local community groups in launching and growing tourism businesses with unique regional characteristics in fields such as accommodation, food and beverage, and experiences. Currently, around 200 community enterprises are operating in 50 local municipalities.
This initiative aims to invigorate regional tourism by transforming the distinctive tourism content of Tourism Dure into travel products. Travel agencies that can develop and manage travel products in collaboration with Tourism Dure community enterprises are eligible to participate, as long as they are registered under the Tourism Promotion Act as either comprehensive or domestic/international travel agencies. The travel products must include at least two community enterprises that are either currently participating in or have a history with the Tourism Dure project.
Following document evaluations and presentations, five final travel products (agencies) will be selected. The organization plans to provide up to 15 million won in operating expenses to the selected agencies based on their performance in attracting tourists.
More detailed information about the contest can be found on the Korean Tourism Industry Portal “Tourarazzi.”
Kwon Jong-sul, the Director of Tourism Company Support at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, “We hope that the new regional travel products introduced through this contest will invigorate regional tourism and the local economy, and provide citizens with the opportunity to experience the unique tourism content of each region.”
