Receive the New Year’s Spirit of ‘All Things Prosper’ at the National Folk Museum

[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Lee Su-ji = The National Folk Museum will hold the ‘2025 Eulsa Year Prosperity New Year Event’ from the 27th to the 30th during the Lunar New Year holiday.

This event commemorates the unique Korean holiday of Lunar New Year, offering a variety of programs such as traditional customs experiences and performances.

**Symbol of Abundance and Fertility: The Snake**

The year 2025 is the Eulsa year (乙巳年), symbolizing the color blue and the snake, aligning with the heavenly stem ‘Eul’ and earthly branch ‘Sa,’ which are represented by blue and a snake respectively. Snakes are known for shedding their skin as they grow and laying up to 10 eggs at a time, symbolizing strong vitality and abundance.

Seasonal events have been prepared to wish visitors good health and prosperity in the new year. Visitors to the museum with proof of being born in the year of the Snake will receive special gifts during the event period.

After viewing the special exhibition ‘Prosperity in the Year of the Snake’ and posting a certificate photo on SNS, you can receive a ‘snake-shaped fortune cookie’ containing a lucky message.

**Wishing for New Year Hopes with Kites**

On New Year’s Day, there is a custom of flying kites after paying respects to elders and visiting ancestral graves. This event includes a kite-making experience called ‘New Year Hope Kite,’ hoping for a prosperous year.

You can also take ‘New Year’s Four-Cut’ photos to commemorate the New Year with family, friends, and relatives.

**Yutnori and Nongak for the New Year**

A ‘Yutnori with Family’ event will be held, where families can play the traditional board game Yutnori. There also is a corner called ‘Eulsa Great Luck Yut Fortune-telling,’ where you can predict your fortune for the year with the fall of the yut sticks.

One can also enjoy the ‘Jisinbapgi Nongak Event,’ a performance that wishes for the village’s well-being, a good harvest, and family prosperity.

Online experience programs such as ‘Come to My Memory!’ and ‘Challenge! Farmer’s Match Duel’ are also available.

**A Snake Appears in the Storage Too**

The Paju branch of the National Folk Museum will hold Lunar New Year events on the 28th and 30th. Through the activity book of the experience ‘Eulsa Year Snake Came to the Storage,’ you can learn about New Year’s rituals and customs, and those who complete the activities will receive a souvenir.

On the first floor, visitors can participate in the ‘One Bowl of Tteokguk Soap’ experience, where they make soap resembling the representative New Year dish tteokguk, from garnish to bowl.

Participate in the Yut fortune-telling program ‘Yut Dribble that Decides Fate’ and imprint auspicious patterns with gold leaf on a lucky pouch with ‘New Year FLEX with Gold Leaf.’
