Nationwide Autumn Rain Until the Weekend… Up to 100mm and Thunderstorms Expected

On Wednesday the 24th, the entire country is expected to be mostly cloudy with rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning in most areas.

The rain will start late at night on the southern coast of Gyeongsangnam-do and gradually spread nationwide from morning to afternoon. In the central region, excluding Chungbuk, some places may see less than 0.1 mm of raindrops from late night to early morning.

Over the two days of the 24th and 25th, 30-80 mm of rain is expected along the west coast of Chungnam and the Jeolla region. The metropolitan area, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Daejeon, Sejong, inland Chungnam, Chungbuk, Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam are expected to receive 20-60 mm of rain. The west coast of Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and the northwest of Jeonnam may see more than 100 mm, and northern inland Gangwon could see more than 80 mm.

Elsewhere, the expected total precipitation is 10-40 mm in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo, 5-20 mm along the northern east coast of Gangwon, and around 5 mm along the central and southern east coast of Gangwon. From the 23rd to the 25th, Jeju Island is forecasted to receive 10-60 mm, and the West Sea 5 Islands are expected to receive 30-80 mm (with some areas receiving more than 100 mm).

Strong winds with instantaneous speeds around 15 meters per second (around 20 meters per second in mountainous areas) are expected in Jeju Island, the west coast, and the mountains of Gangwon.

Morning temperatures will range from 16 to 23 degrees, which is higher than usual, and the afternoon highs will range from 23 to 30 degrees, which is similar to or slightly higher than usual.

The fine dust concentration is expected to be at a “good” level nationwide due to smooth atmospheric dispersion and precipitation.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has advised caution for coastal safety accidents as swells may cause high waves to overtop rocks and breakwaters along the coastlines of Jeju Island, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam.
