The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the world’s premier electric vehicle racing event, will host rounds 8 and 9 of Season 11, titled the 2025 Tokyo E-PRIX, on May 17th and 18th in Tokyo, Japan. Hankook Tire & Technology is actively participating as the exclusive supplier of racing tires for Formula E and as an official partner.
This event marks the second Formula E race held in Tokyo since its initial debut in Japan in 2024. Building on last year’s successful event, this year’s race will adopt a double-header format, drawing the attention of motorsport fans worldwide.
Centered around Japan’s largest exhibition center, Tokyo Big Sight, the urban circuit is 2.582 kilometers long and features 18 corners. It comprises a complex course with a mix of high-speed technical sections and low-speed curves. Given the repeated abrupt braking and changing of directions, tire grip and braking performance are critical factors in determining the outcome.
Hankook Tire will supply the official racing tires, the GEN3 Evo iON Race, for the new Formula E car, the GEN3 Evo, during the event. This will showcase their top-notch tire technology in extreme conditions. The GEN3 Evo iON Race tires are designed to support the explosive performance of the GEN3 Evo, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.86 seconds and achieve a top speed of 322 km/h.
The GEN3 Evo iON Race tire is particularly notable for its use of special engineering fiber materials combined with natural rubber, demonstrating excellent heat-resistance and stability. The tire compound also incorporates sustainable materials and energy-saving technology, contributing to increased sustainability in motorsports. Thus, it is recognized as a next-generation electric racing tire that balances eco-friendliness with high performance.
Maximilian Günther from DS PENSKE, last year’s Tokyo E-PRIX winner and a participant in this year’s event, praised the GEN3 Evo iON Race tire, stating that it offers top-level performance while embodying sustainable design philosophy, proving that motorsports and environmental friendliness can coexist.
