Changdeokgung to Open Window Panels of Pavilions from 18th to 23rd to Welcome the New Spring

The “Bringing Light and Wind to Changdeokgung” event is taking place from the 18th to the 23rd, organized by the Changdeokgung Palace Management Office under the National Heritage Agency. This event involves opening the windows and doors of palace buildings, usually kept closed, to let in light and facilitate ventilation. Visitors can view the interiors through these open windows and use them as frames to appreciate the palace’s beauty from a different perspective.

In particular, this year, the windows of the Seonjeonggak area, the living space of the crown prince, will be opened for the first time. Among the featured locations is Bochunjeong, which means “Pavilion that announces spring,” adding significance to the event. Visitors will also have the chance to look inside areas that are typically not accessible, such as Gwaneumjeong and the southern corridor of Huijeongdang, and learn more about the preservation and management of the palace.

An online event will also be held, where participants can post photos taken with the open windows on their personal Instagram accounts using the hashtag #창덕궁빛바람들이기 from 10 AM on the 18th to midnight on the 23rd. By submitting the post’s URL through the designated online entry page on Changdeokgung’s official Instagram, participants can enter a draw to win souvenirs for 9 selected winners.

All visitors to Changdeokgung can freely participate in the event without reservations, although entry may be temporarily suspended due to strong winds or rain for safety reasons. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Changdeokgung Palace Management Office.
