**30th Anniversary of BMW Group Korea: Building Mobility Infrastructure**
BMW Group Korea announced on the 3rd that in celebration of the 30th anniversary of its establishment in Korea, the company is focusing on building infrastructure that aligns with the future mobility era through long-term and strategic infrastructure investments.
First, they plan to expand the largest overseas parts distribution center (RDC) in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, by adding 31,000 m² by 2027 with an additional investment of 65 billion KRW. This expansion will incorporate advanced technologies such as an AI-driven smart logistics system, ergonomic design for employee health, top-grade fire systems, and a dedicated warehouse for electric vehicle batteries.
In 2016, BMW Group Korea also invested approximately 25 billion KRW in its Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC) to increase vehicle storage capacity from about 4,800 to 9,000 units, and until 2023, invested an additional 60 billion KRW to further expand its facilities.
Consequently, the annual pre-delivery inspection (PDI) capacity rose to 89,000 vehicles as of 2024, with a processing capacity of up to 110,000 vehicles. The vehicle storage capacity also increased from 11,000 to a leading level of 18,000 units, enhancing infrastructure to deliver more vehicles timely.
Additionally, BMW Group Korea is accelerating its domestic R&D investments. In April, it relocated its R&D center previously at the BMW Driving Center to the Incheon Cheongna International City, reopening as the BMW Group R&D Center Korea, complete with maintenance and testing labs, electric vehicle charger testing facilities, and other test labs.
To date, BMW has installed a total of 2,400 charging stations nationwide and is developing premium charging spaces such as the “BMW Charging Hub Lounge” near Seoul Station. They aim to improve both the quality and quantity of charging infrastructure, planning to install an additional 600 charging stations, including ESG-compliant ones, by the end of the year, bringing the total to 3,000 public charging stations.
