“Robert Pattinson from ‘Mickey17’ makes his first visit to Korea, greets with a witty ‘Hello’ in Korean.”

[Sports Chosun Reporter Jo Ji-young] Actor Robert Pattinson described “‘Mickey 17’ as a simple yet frenzied work.”

On the morning of January 20th, a sneak preview and press conference for the sci-fi movie “Mickey 17” (directed by Bong Joon-ho) was held at the CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Robert Pattinson, who plays the role of Mickey, an expendable tasked with all sorts of dangerous tasks, and director Bong Joon-ho.

Making his first trip to Korea with “Mickey 17,” Robert Pattinson greeted the audience by saying “Hello” in Korean. He expressed surprise at never having been to Seoul before, adding, “It’s my first visit to Korea and I was eager to meet various fans and people here.”

He elaborated on the film, saying, “The script itself was really intriguing. When I first read it, it was very simple but frenzied, a script you could read quickly. It delves into the mentality behind Mickey’s way of life, which is quite complex. There was a human side to it too. The character lacks confidence, yet doesn’t pity himself. There’s also a dumb side to him. It’s a new character you wouldn’t see in any other movie. As I was watching Mickey, a lot of inspiration popped into my head, and at first, I thought of playing him as a dog. I had a badly behaved dog as a pet, which reminded me of Mickey when it came to his amusing actions during training. It’s a character that needs to die 17 times to realize the essence of life.”

“Mickey 17,” an adaptation of author Edward Ashton’s novel “Mickey 7,” is a work depicting the unpredictable story that unfolds when Mickey, an expendable who is reprinted when he dies, faces his 17th death crisis, believing he is dead while Mickey 18 is printed. The movie features Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo, and is directed by Bong Joon-ho of “Parasite.” It is set to premiere first in Korea on February 28th, followed by a North American release on March 7th.
