In a recent episode of KBS Joy’s “Ask Us Anything” (episode 361), actor Lee Hoon discussed the challenging phase in his acting career. He revealed that for the past three years, projects have continuously fallen through, leaving him unable to work. A drama scheduled to be shot in 2024 was canceled, a project in the U.S. was indefinitely postponed, and another project planned for this year was halted due to budget issues. Lee Hoon expressed that if he cannot continue as an actor, he might consider giving up altogether.
He shared his frustration that despite devoting all his time to preparing for roles, the collapse of projects has left him unable to participate in any economic activities. For instance, he had lost 10 kg to play the role of a Korean killer team leader in a Hollywood film, but the drama he got involved in subsequently was also called off. Similarly, he bulked up for another project, but that too was canceled.
Lee Hoon candidly remarked that although some might think he is complaining without reason, it’s genuinely a heartbreaking situation where he can neither quit nor continue. Hearing his story, fellow panelist Lee Soo-geun empathized, indicating he fully understood, while Seo Jang-hoon firmly advised that Lee Hoon should continue acting. Seo emphasized the importance of showcasing his career as an “actor who tells life stories” and suggested adopting a more proactive approach to seizing opportunities, which might ultimately bring in more offers.
To lighten the mood, Lee Soo-geun jokingly suggested that Lee Hoon should consider changing his name to “Lee Hon” (a play on words, as “이혼” means “divorce” in Korean), causing laughter. He also teasingly hinted at a significant opportunity coming Lee Hoon’s way, either this July or next July. Throughout the show, Lee Soo-geun and Lee Hoon engaged playfully, providing an entertaining atmosphere.
