“Director Bong Joon-ho returns after 6 years since ‘Parasite’ with ‘Mickey17’, an ‘SF with a Human Touch'”

[Sports Chosun Reporter Jo Ji-young] Director Bong Joon-ho described his film as “a SF movie full of human scent.”

On the morning of the 20th, a footage screening and press conference for the SF movie ‘Mickey 17’ (directed by Bong Joon-ho) was held at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by Robert Pattinson, who plays Mickey, an expendable person doing all sorts of dangerous tasks, and Director Bong Joon-ho.

Director Bong Joon-ho, who chose South Korea as the starting point for the global release campaign of ‘Mickey 17’, said, “It feels unfamiliar to attend such an event after a long time. ‘Mickey 17’ is a SF movie, but it is simultaneously full of human scent, a human story. It’s the story of Mickey, a common, powerless, and pitiful young man played by Robert Pattinson. I want to introduce it as a new SF full of human atmosphere.”

Based on the new novel ‘Mickey 7’ by author Edward Ashton, ‘Mickey 17’ depicts an unpredictable story of Mickey, who is an expendable person printed again if killed during dangerous tasks, but faces his 17th death crisis only to have Mickey 18 printed thinking he had died. The film stars Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo, with director Bong Joon-ho of ‘Parasite’ holding the megaphone. It will premiere in South Korea on February 28 as a world first, followed by a North American release on March 7.
