To address trade issues such as tariff measures, a visit to the United States… Assistant Minister of Trade says, “Full effort to protect Korean interests.”

In response to U.S. tariff measures and other trade issues, Park Jong-won, Deputy Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, plans to visit the United States to meet key figures from the U.S. administration, Congress, and stakeholders.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that Deputy Minister Park will depart for Washington, D.C., on the 17th. During his meetings with U.S. officials, he aims to discuss U.S.-related trade issues, including reciprocal tariffs (under review until April 1) and the 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum (scheduled to be imposed on March 12). He also plans to explore ways to strengthen economic cooperation between South Korea and the United States.

Deputy Minister Park intends to grasp the main concerns of the U.S. regarding reciprocal tariff impositions through meetings with key U.S. government and congressional figures. He plans to actively convey South Korea’s stance on steel and aluminum tariff measures. Additionally, he will request the creation of a stable and consistent policy environment to facilitate South Korean companies’ investment projects in the U.S.

Moreover, Deputy Minister Park will meet with major think tanks and stakeholders to closely monitor trends in U.S. government policies and seek possible cooperative measures.

He stated, “Amid increasing policy uncertainty due to the recent series of trade and tariff announcements by the U.S. government, we will make every effort to protect the interests of our companies.”
