“Kia Unveils Exterior of EV4: Can It Continue the EV3 Sales Myth? ‘Aims for 30,000 Annual Sales'”

The exterior of Kia’s pure electric sedan, the “EV4,” was unveiled on the 17th. Specific specifications and interior images of the EV4 will be revealed at the “Kia EV Day” taking place in Spain at the end of this month, and the exact domestic sales launch date has not yet been announced. Kia plans to sell 30,000 units of the EV4 annually.

The unveiled exterior of the EV4 shows little difference from the concept model revealed in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, in 2023. While the overall design might remind one of a hatchback or crossover, Kia has defined this vehicle as a sedan. Karim Habib, head of global design at Kia, expressed confidence by stating, “The EV4, which reinterprets the sedan, is a model that reflects Kia’s efforts to redefine mobility through design.”

The initial market response to the EV4’s design has been positive. Some consumers have rated it as “better than Hyundai,” with others noting that the price could be a crucial factor in its success.

Kia’s CEO, Song Ho-sung, expressed confidence in the EV4 and the electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) EV5 sales prospects during the 2025 Hyundai Motor Group New Year’s meeting held at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang on January 6th. He mentioned, “Considering the EV3’s annual domestic sales are around 30,000 units, we believe a similar volume is feasible for the EV4 and EV5 in Korea.”

Since its introduction to the domestic market in July last year, the EV3 sold 12,851 units by December, making it the best-seller among Kia’s electric vehicle lineup. Following CEO Song’s predictions, the EV3 might sell over 30,000 units annually in the domestic market from this year onwards.

The key to the EV4’s success, akin to the EV3, is its pricing. Industry insiders speculate that the EV4 and EV5 might be priced higher than the EV3 due to their higher vehicle class. The domestic price of the EV3, excluding subsidies and with a 3.5% individual consumption tax benefit, ranges from 39.95 million to 48.50 million won.

Regarding the pricing of the upcoming EVs like the EV4, CEO Song mentioned, “As the pricing has not been finalized, it’s difficult to comment right now. The EV4 and EV5 will be segmented higher than the EV3, so they will be launched with an appropriate price gap between the segments.”

At the “2025 Kia EV Day” in Tarragona, Spain, later this month, Kia plans to reveal its expanded electrification strategy alongside the interior design and detailed specifications of the EV4. Additionally, they will unveil the mass production model of Kia’s first Purpose-Based Vehicle (PBV), the PV5, and the EV2 concept.

Kia also plans to host an EV4 preview event, inviting a total of 9,000 people from locations including Seoul Seongsu, Seoul Gangseo, Incheon, Gwangju, and Wonju, Gangwon Province, from March 29th to 30th. After the event, the EV4 is expected to be delivered to the domestic market after April.
