POSCO E&C Proposes Unique Design Incorporating Natural Scenery for Yongsan Maintenance Depot

POSCO E&C, aiming to win the contract for the Yongsan Maintenance Depot Front Area Phase 1, has proposed an exclusive design incorporating natural scenery into the exterior of the complex. On the 23rd, POSCO E&C announced that they presented a unique exterior design that harmonizes with the rich natural scenery surrounding the Yongsan Maintenance Depot Front Area Phase 1 site in their bid proposal.

In Seoul and other municipalities, strict permit standards are applied to sky bridges that span across external roads of a complex. A POSCO E&C representative explained, “We applied a three-dimensional design connecting two pairs of landmark towers with sky bridges, each offering views of the Han River and Namsan. The sky bridge is positioned within the complex to avoid encroaching on external roads while harmonizing with the surrounding landscape.”

The design involved Ben van Berkel, a representative of the global architectural firm UNStudio and a member of ‘Seoul General Architect Partners.’ This initiative by the Seoul city government includes ten domestic and international experts with extensive field experience to envision the future urban landscape of Seoul.

Additionally, POSCO E&C plans to incorporate a district heating system in the design, avoiding the need for individual heating systems that require protruding chimneys, thus reducing fire risks and maintenance costs. They also intend to use their unique steel technology to finish the exterior walls with the premium steel product, PosMAC.
