LG Electronics Completes Expansion of Four Research Buildings at LG Science Park
A Total of 10 Buildings with 10,000 R&D Personnel
LG Electronics has completed the expansion of four research buildings at LG Science Park. With this expansion, the number of LG Electronics research buildings within the park has increased to 10 (W1~W10), forming a global R&D control tower gathering approximately 10,000 domestic R&D personnel to create synergy.
The expanded buildings at LG Science Park in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, have a total floor area of 125,000 pyeong and a land area of 21,000 pyeong, making it the largest single-company R&D center in Seoul. The company expects this large-scale R&D center to play a positive role in attracting top R&D talent in the future.
Starting from the recent holiday season, around 2,000 researchers from Seocho, Yangjae, and Gasan R&D campuses began moving to the new research buildings at LG Science Park. Most of the R&D personnel from the CTO division, which leads advanced technology R&D, and the four business divisions will now be working at LG Science Park. The park will continue to strengthen its role as an R&D control tower, driving local product development at 23 overseas research centers and headquarters-led R&D projects.
Approximately 1,000 researchers who were previously working at LG Science Park will also relocate to the new research buildings. This expansion aims to provide researchers with a more spacious and comfortable environment to increase work efficiency.
To ensure that employees relocating to the new buildings do not experience childcare difficulties, LG Electronics has expanded an LG Electronics Magok childcare center that can accommodate 100 children. Including an existing workplace childcare center, the total capacity of childcare facilities within LG Science Park has increased to 460.
LG Electronics has also established a safety experience center within the research buildings. It allows researchers to virtually experience potential safety accidents in labs to prevent such incidents and minimize damage in emergencies. The safety center plans to offer 18 safety-related experience contents, including fire evacuation, protective eyewear performance, safety footwear impact, and chemical reaction safety.
Aligning with its goal of being a “Smart Life Solution” company, LG Electronics is accelerating its business transformation to provide customers with more comprehensive experiences beyond individual products, focusing its R&D capabilities to continually enhance synergy from a future fusion and convergence perspective.
As a result of this expansion, the total number of research buildings at LG Science Park has increased from 22 to 26. The park, which spans an area of 170,000 square meters (about 54,000 pyeong), equivalent to 24 football fields, is the largest fusion and convergence research complex in the country. Approximately 25,000 people work here, including R&D teams from LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, LG Household & Health Care, and LG Uplus, as well as affiliated companies and startups.
