Korean Air resumes Kumamoto route after 27 years

On the 24th, Korean Air held a ceremony at Incheon International Airport’s Terminal 2 to commemorate the resumption of its Kumamoto route, it was announced on the 25th. This route, which originally launched in 1997, has resumed operations after 27 years.

Korean Air staff and key guests celebrated the successful takeoff of flight KE777 with a commemorative event.

The route takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Incheon to Kumamoto and about 2 hours for the return trip from Kumamoto to Incheon. Detailed flight schedules are available on the Korean Air website and mobile app.

An Airbus A321neo with a total of 182 seats has been deployed for this route. The Prestige Class features 8 seats that can fully recline to 180 degrees, while the Economy Class has 174 seats equipped with 33 cm personal monitors and adjustable headrests to enhance passenger convenience.

Additionally, the flight offers in-flight Wi-Fi service and employs carbon emission reduction technology to ensure a comfortable and eco-friendly journey.

Kumamoto, located in the heart of Japan’s Kyushu, offers attractions such as Mount Aso, the world’s largest caldera volcano; Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan’s three premier castles; Kikuchi Castle, with traces of interaction with the ancient Baekje kingdom; Amakusa, an area with numerous islands; and Kurokawa, a hot spring village with a 300-year tradition. Other attractions include regional specialties like Kumamoto Ramen, Karashi Renkon (mustard lotus root), and Basashi (horse meat sashimi), as well as the ‘Kumamon’ mascot, drawing the interest of travelers.

A representative from Korean Air stated, “Kumamoto, a key transportation hub connecting the southern and northern parts of Kyushu, is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. By linking with other Kyushu cities serviced by Korean Air, such as Fukuoka, Kagoshima, and Nagasaki, travelers can enjoy an even more rewarding trip.”
