Tuition fee increases confirmed at 27 universities nationwide; 13 more are ‘in discussion’

“27 universities nationwide have confirmed tuition fee increases.”

“The Council of University Presidents announced today in their ‘2025 Academic Year Tuition Increase Status’ report, compiled from media reports and each university’s website, that 27 universities, including 23 private and 4 public universities, have decided to raise tuition fees.”

“By region, 16 universities in the metropolitan area and 11 universities in non-metropolitan areas have decided to increase tuition.”

“The increase rates are 2.20% to 5.48% for private universities and 4.96% to 5.49% for public universities.”

“The Council of University Presidents also reported that 13 universities are currently discussing increases with their tuition deliberation committees.”

“There are 27 universities that have decided to freeze tuition fees, including 8 private and 19 public universities, with 5 in the metropolitan area and 22 in non-metropolitan areas.”

“At the regular general meeting of the Korean Council for University Education held in Seoul yesterday, university presidents continued to voice their requests for lifting the regulations related to tuition fees.”

“In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Joo-ho commented, ‘The government is currently in an acting capacity, so it’s not easy to suddenly announce new policies. Given the difficult economic and livelihood conditions for students and parents, there has been a demand for universities to endure a little longer,’ he said, apologizing for not meeting expectations.”
