The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced today (22nd) that they will designate and operate over 43,000 hospitals and pharmacies that will be open during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The city stated that in order to alleviate emergency room overcrowding and to ensure that patients with mild symptoms can easily receive treatment, the period from January 25th to February 2nd will be designated as an “emergency medical care period.”
The city explained that an average of 5,400 hospitals and pharmacies (3,500 hospitals and 1,900 pharmacies) will be operational each day during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Additionally, 31 regional and local emergency medical centers, including Seoul National University Hospital, 18 local emergency medical institutions, including Seoul Metropolitan Government Seoul National Hospital, and 21 hospitals with emergency rooms will operate 24 hours as usual during the holiday period.
Two Seoul-type Urgent Care Centers (UCC) and four disease-specific hospitals (surgical category) that can be used by patients with mild symptoms who find it difficult to use the emergency room will also be open during the holiday.
Eight “Our Child Safe Hospitals” for pediatric semi-urgent patients, three “Our Child Specialized Emergency Centers” for severe pediatric emergency patients will operate 24 hours, and ten “Our Child Safe Clinics” and fourteen “Moonlight Children’s Hospitals” handling mild pediatric cases will also be operational.
Furthermore, all health centers in the 25 districts of Seoul and seven city hospitals will operate emergency medical teams, dividing into two days each for the four days of the holiday across regions.
Information about hospitals and pharmacies that remain open during the holiday period can be found on the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s “2025 Lunar New Year Holiday Comprehensive Information” website and the websites of the 25 districts. It is also accessible on Naver Map or Kakao Map.
